I love this scene a lot because I know the writer, Dwayne McDuffie, reiterated a similar sentiment later on in life when asked about some of the black superheroes Marvel put out in the 70’s. That even as a child he found that they usually embodied a lot of offensive stereotypes about black people (or always had BLACK in their name), but that characters like Luke Cage, Black Lightning and Black Goliath were important BECAUSE they were the first, and that he wouldn’t have been writing Static or Black Panther or Storm if it weren’t for them.
